elephants and ghosts

The Titanic

bonewhite and broken
barnacles cling to my skin
we’ll tie paper airplanes
and peacock feathers
to our feet when we feel
like flying a little
and you’ll kiss me through my clothes
you’ll say
don’t forget the name
or the face
or the locks in our doors
the gaps in my teeth
the holes in your jeans and
i’ll carve you on the backs of my hands
with the edges of barnacles

it’s elephants and ghosts
that never forget
