insomnia

weird to think and know that there are so many people doing what i want to do that would rather be doing what im doing which is sometimes, often exactly what i don't want to be doing

this weekend has been textbooks, earthquakes and landmines and doing a month's work of readings/quizzes/assignments in two days. also prank calls and margharitas, which was good but other than that, my face is scribbled with blue pen and i'd really love to brush my hair. once i finish this it's midterms and papers but THEN

it's cabins on vancouver island and beach combing in the rain and hopefully painting at my cabin and hopefully seeing my cousin. i desperately need to go shopping, i'd like some new wooly cardigans and second hand books that i won't have a chance to read for awhile. i feel like starting over again. its always nice to do that, cut off your hair and do your laundry and let things feel new.

I KEEP SAYING THAT

but this time i mean it

change can only happen once you start, right?

i applied for residence, could be interesting. i'm a social person. ive spent all year pretending not to be. it just results in me biting my fingernails more. i'm sometimes so terrified that things won't turn out with the boy if i change stuff but it's inevitable and it's happening, the floor is sliding out from under us. i've been feeling a little neglected lately.

i've also been feeling something else but i'm not sure what it is

actually i know

it's bitter

but i'm not sure why

i am really fucking bitter because of you and nothing and everything and i don't know exactly

lately i only have the chance to blog when i'm half awake and pmsing so i apologise for the angst, life's pretty okay

and last weekend was one of my favourites!

i just feel like i'm looking for something and i already know what it is but i have to fall back asleep to remember it

dear all-nighter,

i'm sorry i failed you two nights in a row and fell asleep at 9:30 in my clothes with the lights still on.

accidental, i swear.

hello all-nighter

i don't think we're going to be friends.

i know those doors, i've walked through them both ways before.

Dreaming of earthquakes and crying on skytrains, wearing helmets and pillows and at some point there was horses and hidden doors and i was breaking laws. spending days catching up on millions of hours of homework, making hotel reservations, trying to avoid homelessness next year.

I would rather live under your staircase than beside a million faceless faces.

except that was harsh.

i should maybe rethink that.

to do list:
catch up on everything
figure out all the technicalities of my camera
photograph
take the time to wear dresses and textured tights and new red suede flats with ribbons
paint a canvas
get a job
disappear for awhile
skip art lecture today, but smile and let it feel novel and exciting, the way it felt all the times i skipped highschool to be with those that i preffered over quotations, dates, trivia about world wars
take my driving theory classes with yawning sixteen year olds during which i will play tic tac toe by myself and lose

i could never give you anything

songs written for me
you tear me all apart and put it back together
the edge of the ocean and deep cove
taking photographs of faces and rocks
trips to surrey
2 am breakfasts
white wine
kissing faces
helium balloons
thrift stores and fluorescent lighting
ravines
forests
pushed up against walls
and its raining
the raindrops trickle off of your eyelashes
falling apart
watching other people fall apart
driving nowhere when its too late
to be without a destination
but somehow it all works out

do you remember that?

see you there.

ll meet you there when
the evening writhes
I will know the location
by the look in your eyes

The void and the vista
the fugitives gone
I'll see you there
at the Hotel Vast Horizon

All them authorizations
we must have missed
are just the dictions dissolving
when we kissed

Just to transfigure
where others have fallen
I'll see you there
at the Hotel Vast Horizon
see you there

A long trail of lovers
came out of the prison
it becomes a matter of habit*
after the season
and the distance's mirror
the witnesses gone

I'll see you there
at the Hotel Vast Horizon
see you there

remember to pick my voice up from the gutter, tie my shoelaces. forgot to wear socks. wrote your name on the back of my neck in mirrorwriting so i can always have you. its a solar eclipse, did you know that? i cant draw in straight lines, i can only handwrite, crookedly.

dead weather

hello world

i miss when it was sunny and i could take pictures of skyscrapers and flowers about to bloom and forget about shoes. i miss that. webbed toes and walking, bootless, and today i've done nothing. random gigs, thrifting adventures, amazing headbands, floral dresses, best friends and talking till 1 am and walking home in the rain and not caring and "have you ever tilted your head back and just watched the rain??" and the flagpole was making that slamming rickety quiver sound and i remembered all those people i'd forgotten. i took pictures of fire escapes and procrastinated, tomorrow i won't though.

i swear.

my skin feels clean and its time to tear up my room and paint the walls. for real.

things ive realised

Starbucks food always LOOKS delicious but tastes like cardboard. its deceiving
i will never join a sorority
i am not interested in or good at understanding the science of rocks
but i'm going to try and pass this course anyways
I'm also going to try and show up for things
and make time for writing, art, music
and the people that matter

because i love you sera and laura :)

snippets of things that seem consequential

i like to watch peoples faces reflected in the windows of busses after dark. they're all quiet and contemplative or angry ore bitter and it reminds me to love those that are arounds you

even if they could be disappointments. even if theyre intensity or lack therof scares you.

not everyone can love not everyone will be loved. is this tragic? i think i'm undecided on that one

i played velocity girl through the speakers of the stereo in the kitchen, i harmonized and you were underground and the lamp caught fire. i'm sorry. that was an oversite on my part. and i like the part where chris whitley says WAKE UP WE'RE NEARLY HOME because you know THERES A PLACE FOR US

i like the sound of unheard telephone rings. you know what i mean? it's the comfort of knowing that you haven't been forgotten even in the moments where you feel like your teetering on the precipice of something unnamed and unnameable or maybe you're hopscotching across the equator, kissing untill your lips bruise. People don't forget even if you're underground. But sometimes they're mean to forget and you are a ghost wrapped up in bedsheets or camouflage or whatever it is

we found letters in free books about philosophy and religion in alleyways. and that was one of those days where hazy sun spun smiles and sweat in the creases of our arms and we forgot to want to be anywhere do anything. we sat on your doorstep and read the letter. it was about someone who had cancer who died but who's still loved and i said he was lucky enough to be loved

love love love could she love him less?

and i had my christmas lights on and you were curled up in my bedsheets that are all cut roses and i think you were almost asleep and for some reason i wondered how you would paint me if you were a painter

how does anyone paint anyone

its the way someone sees someone not the way you exist. you know? it's all in what we perceive and what if its all a mirage or what if we see everything in gray when really its the most alive shade of turquoise, like sections of the ocean or slivers of irises and cold lips or i don't know

and new years was all tiled floors and i forget. even though i said i never would. and then candles fires cat's cradle. friends and not friends and fuck forgetfulness, it's like cataracts, little trails of blindness that traipse across irises

as soon as i don't need to write in a fucking institution i love the way worlds feel again. if knowledge is power how come i feel so much freer, so much more in control of my words when i'm not fucking taking courses teaching me how to use them? i like blank pages i like vagrants and gypsies and the electric seconds just before you kiss someone and it means something, i like freedom and oceans and fingertips and eyelashes when the sdun hits them so that they are no longer invisible.

life has been basements and movies and crying and laughing and taking pictures of alleyways remembering my family hysteria cold sunsets. life has been velocity girl and wanting that which i do not have or need. life has been honesty in car ports cigarette embers and forgiveness and remembering what it is to be who i am and that will not be compromised for fucking degrees or temporary people. life has been missed buses on the first day of school and fuck this why am i going here, life has been cracks in concrete splits in my nails. life has been hiding things from myself without realizing. life has been sublime and reunions and revisiting beginnings and new people and my feet still feel the same. but i could be wrong about that. life has been sun streaming through car windows pictures of best friends and painted rainbows and not enough sleep, staying up talking for hours eating entire toblerones getting A's in university. life has been everything from bon iver to ancient yeah yeah yeahs eps which id always thought were unfindable but somehow came to fall into my hands. life is nick zinner's photography, tearing apart my walls, daring myself to do something slightly different, life is finding where my footprints fit.
